Wanted to share these incredible mandalas.  A gift from my lovely daughter today.

They hold wisdom in every tiny  detail.

The medicine of the deer brings stillness, the foxes remind us to run with the pack and not isolate ourselves from friends and family, the small boar feeds us the medicine of courage to face our fears.  With the unicorn bringing us medicine from the angelic realm.

Gratitude for the gift, and for Danielle Barlow who painted them………….

if you were here I could say so much about your gifts as a mother, you are on another journey now and still think of you every day.

I love you, Mother, I have woven a wreath
Of rhymes wherewith to crown your honoured name:
In you not fourscore years can dim the flame
Of love, whose blessed glow transcends the laws
Of time and change and mortal life and death.

Christina Rossetti

To all mothers, mothers to be, mothers not to be, all women

Your words rang out to me loud and clear especially “Maybe Marie Stopes was right, it is all in the mind. Well our minds are made up by our influences and personal paradigms- so, if we shift the influences and create a society where women are supported – not cut, drugged or locked up for going through something natural then we can change our personal paradigm. Our experience of the menopause may even become something to look forward to, rather than fear.” keep on writing your words of wisdom.

Two dear friend of mine are facillitating a series of workshops over the coming months, I urge you take a look and if you feel drawn to work with the medicine wheel, then please book a place on the first workshop…………

WORKSHOP ONE:  Saturday 20 to Sunday 21st April 2013

The Way of the Serpent: Truth and Beauty

In this workshop we learn about our birth, our connection to the Mother and about our living home, Planet Earth.  We learn how to make deep, intuitive and energetic connections with Nature and begin to understand what it means to be part of the Living Cosmos.

We work with the archetypal symbol Serpent, sometimes feared, sometimes revered in the contrary World of Men.  We explore Serpent’s essential female nature and beauty, her Earth-bound wisdom, her life-giving properties and the Medicine she offers us:  Truth and Beauty.  With her Medicine we dive into the depths of who we are, we are confronted with who, through the years, we have become and she teaches us the Way of Beauty through the constant practice of Letting Go.  She shows us how to shed our past and all the things we have clung onto the way that she sheds her skin: all in one piece.  She thus shows us that life is an endless series of deaths and rebirths as we learn to come to terms and celebrate who we are and what we have right NOW, in this moment.

DAY ONE (Saturday 20th April)

  • Introductions and opening of Sacred Space
  • Working with the Energy Body: a practical session learning how to access the energies of the Upper World and Mother Earth to support and strengthen one’s own luminous field
  • Despacho: a traditional Andean prayer mandala to invoke the tutelary spirit of Sachamama
  • A guided journey to the Middle World:  the Sacred Garden.  This journey takes us to the pristine rivers, forests, meadows and mountains of the untainted Middle World which was given to us by the Creator to enable us to delight in the pleasures of being human.  Here we encounter two Trees: the Tree of Beauty and the Tree of Truth representing an essential duality of human life.
  • The Medicine Bundle: an introduction to the Shaman’s toolkit and how to work with sacred stones to track energy and facilitate healing.
  • Sand Painting work: learning how to use objects from Nature to create an individual Mandala to come to understand who we are and where we source ourselves from.  We will return to these sand paintings throughout the workshop to help process different experiences over the weekend.
  • Sachamama, Great Serpent: story-telling and movement will help us understand the essence of this mythical, archetypal being who will support our work throughout the weekend.
  • River of Life:  we will each create a sacred “timeline” to represent key moments which have shaped our lives.  This will help us “see”, from a shamanic perspective, who we have become and where we source ourselves from energetically.
  • Sachamama’s Journey: a guided journey, supported by Sachamama, to take us down our Rivers of Life and to begin the process of shedding the past.
  • Fire Ceremony: we learn how to build a Sacred Fire and then how to work with this most powerful of the four elements to support our work.

DAY TWO (Sunday, 21st April)

  • Fire Breathing and the Three Centres of Power: we learn how to stoke our internal fire and how to awaken the three centres of shamanic power that reside within us.
  • Walking Meditation:  learning how to walk in harmony with nature and how to exchange energies with one of the most powerful of Nature’s beings: trees.
  • The Twin Trees: within our Sacred Space we use ancient Andean techniques to help us create a web of energy between two trees which will represent the essence of our work in the South: Truth and Beauty.
  • Creating and performaing ritual: here we learn how to bring ceremony and ritual together in order to engage directly in the weaving together of Truth and Beauty, supported by Nature and assisted by our Power Animal for this workshop, Sachamama.
  • Infinity Dance:  as we dance in Sacred Space, between the Twin Trees representing Truth and Beauty, we begin to understand how this is really a Cosmic Dance.  And through dance, we begin the process of transformation and awakening.  We become initiates in the Shaman’s Way.
  • Closing ceremony with Talking Stick

love and gratitude

July 16, 2011

In my month of ponderings and creating  a new work space I still found time to meditate, have been getting up and going to the park opposite me at around 6.30, and on wet days such as today, my trusty cushion keeps me comfortable whilst seated in my bay window overlooking the park.

Pondering on different books I had been reading recently, it came to me in meditation that I would make a circle of beads, perhaps to use in quieter moments to remind of the wonderful people I have in my life. Each bead comes from my collection of necklaces, earings, bracelets, some broken, all share great sentimental value.

Opening sacred space I sat and snipped the threads allowing all the beads to flow into a bowl. Choosing each one with love I threaded them onto some deep pink silken thread, remembering the people, the occasions they were given and above all the gratitude I felt for having them in my life, blowing in a special prayer for each and every person and everything I have gratitude for in my life………..

I was so enjoying doing this, that I made one for my daughter so that she can sew seeds in each one and use them to make wonderful new growth in her life.

Here is the one I made for myself

Ancestral Path

March 28, 2010

Our western culture doesn’t make much room for the honoring of  ancestors, for the gifts they gave us that have enriched our lives, layers and layers of story– our story embedded in the story of our family, which in turn is nestled in the story of our parents’ families, and so on back through generations.  This genetic story is wrapped in cultural stories, the places and events that shaped the people who came before us — language, music, landscape.  Within us is a sacred thread that is woven with everyone in our ancestral past.  We carry within us the hopes and dreams, the wounds and longings, of everyone who came before us.

Our ancestors, those who are the twice born, those who have conquered death, who have done battles with the archetypes and the battles of nature to be become persons of great knowledge.  These are the trustees of our earth and it is their wisdom and the parts they played that propelled us to this point in our lives, right here, right now……..

Some people say to me how can we honour ancestors when there has been conflict and problems in our families.  My family is no different, my father was an alcoholic and bought with him disharmony and mayhem, but his weaknesses around drink was my strength, his love of music and the melodies he wrote for his bagpipes bring a richness to my life beyond words.  All our ancestors bear great gifts,  sometimes it just takes time mine the rich seams of gold that lie within.

I personally have come to know of the celtic life  blood that forces through my veins, this has given me that earthy connection to my sexuality,  my wildness, my love of music, literature, poetry,  arts, and my spiritual wisdom, and the power and beauty held in all my female ancestry has given me the strength to survive when everything around me was failing.   I honour you all for your wonderful gifts.

In the North, we encounter the energies of Hummingbird ,  this archetypal energy teaches us to honour ancestors and put them in the order of love, to place them behind us, supporting us, so we can journey forth in the knowledge of who “we are”.

The images show some of the pieces I have made to honour the path I have journeyed so far, my grandmother and great grandmother take their rightful place,  their strength and beauty live on.

The Garden of Plenty

March 8, 2010

The divine feminine, mother earth, the dark magical mysteries that lie under the earth.  Feminine receptive energies where time is circular, continuous without end.

A lot of my work is inspired by this very powerful imagery that flows through my veins.  So I though it’s time to balance the energies, masculine thrusting energy that propels itself forward in the world and keeps everything in balance, the yin and yang, the light and the dark, the sun and the moon.   The sword that slay the dragon.

The Start of a New Decade

February 2, 2010

And what an auspicious beginning, the 13th full moon of the year arose for the last time in 2009 to a partial lunar eclipse.   How amazing is all this, a real time of change where major shifts take place both personally and globally.

This Moon, second one in the month of December is actually called a Blue moon, it happens approx once every three years, hence the saying some say “once in a blue moon”. On her journey through the cosmos she passes through the constellation of Cancer and the Sun will be moving opposite the Moon through the constellation of Capricorn.  As you know, we tend to be more emotionally expressive during a Full Moon. This emotional and sometimes rather shaky environment occurs because there is change in the electromagnetic energy that affects us mentally and neurologically.

As the moon begins to grow rich and full, tension begins to build until it reaches a crescendo and literally eclipses the sun.    Immediately there is a release, a real sense of freedom, blockages begin to crumble as we let go of everything that no longer serves us in our lives.

I see this time as a real era of change, like a huge heavy door opening up before us, allowing us to take flight into the unknown.  A starting point of our epic journey to who we are becoming. We all have the opportunity now to dream a new world into being, allowing ourselves to open up to the bigger picture and start co-create something really new for this beautiful world of ours.

Last weekend saw the first new moon of the decade, it was huge with a warm golden glow, its proximity to Mars and its reflection gave it this beautiful colour.  The full moon was in Leo with Venus and Mars astride.  A Full Moon is light (the Sun) fully illuminating what is hidden or unconscious (the Moon) – so that should be viewed as something that the Universe decrees as having arrived at a time when it needs to be exposed and so brought closer to being resolved.   It prompts us to take a good look at how courageous we are.

Do we have what it takes to see things through? Are we brave enough to confront what is necessary to make the long-lasting changes? The Sun in Aquarius reminds us to be progressive and creative and learn to take a step back and view things from a more balanced perspective.

This coming year feels so good, there is definitely a huge shift in the way I view my world now,  knowing that mother earth is there supporting my every step keeps me grounded, connected and able to move forward with certainty

shadows...... let them be your gifts

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

~ Rumi ~

At the start of my shamanic journey this ancient poem was sent to me by one of my teachers.  At the time of reading it I was struggling big time and didn’t grasp its meaning or relevance fully.  However, today I heard the poem again being read out on a shamanic audio podcast, only this time I  heard the poem with very different ears.  Its  message crystal clear.    Learning to embrace the dark side, our shadows, ”the visitors to the guest house” is what sets us free.  These “guests” come bearing gifts,  if we can unwrap them and learn from them, we can begin to connect to our true self.  Allow our light to shine clear and bright and transform the quality of our energetic vibrations to a much higher level

I want to talk about the shadow, the dark side, the part of us we keep well hidden, the part we don’t want anyone to know about, the part we internalized long ago when as a child we were humiliated, chastised or shamed.  We became detached, we split off, and lost our connection with our true self.

For some people the shadow pieces can remain all their lives, its too painful to “go there” and they are in total denial that there is any problem at all. For others there becomes a time when they start to see the pieces and embrace them, these are two different ends of the spectrum, but reaching the latter releases us from everything that holds us back and stops us from reaching our souls purpose in this life.

The shadow in denial never stays dormant forever, some way, somehow the shadows will surface in ways that can be totally self destructive.  It can be the beautifully mannered person always polite and sweet who ends up violently attacking their partner, the pillar of the community ends up stealing the community fund, the priest who took his vows of celibacy is caught having sex with a parishioner.  The pleasant well mannered bank clerk defrauds the bank of a lot of money and is sent to prison etc, etc.   In addition the shadow causes blocks in our energy bodies, resulting in physical manifestations, joint pains and headaches to auto immune diseases, back problems and more serious terminal illnesses and so on.  (Read Louise Hay’s HEAL YOUR BODY http://www.amazon.co.uk/Heal-Your-Body-Louise-Hay/dp/0937611352)

First we have to recognize the shadows, some we can readily identify, some are well hidden.  A sure way of finding out some pieces to work with is to think of someone in your life who seems to “push all your buttons”, then write a list of all things that really annoy you about them.  This will probably be very easy………..  once listed read them out to yourself and know that each item  you wrote is in fact one of YOUR shadows

As hard as it might be to accept these are all the pieces that you have been trying to hold down unseen all your life. It helps to see them as gifts to unwrap, see how a particular quality may have helped you in your life.  Another way of finding shadow pieces is to list the qualities that you would most like to remembered for, then write down the opposite quality, find a word that really resonates, this latter one is your shadow.  For a better understanding of shadow work I thouroughly recommend THE DARD SIDE OF THE LIGHT CHASERS by Debiie Ford http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Side-Light-Chasers-Reclaiming/dp/0340819057/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1249540887&sr=1-1

Wake up

May 29, 2009

wake up

That divine spark is within each individual but it needs to be drawn out and fanned into a flame in so many souls. It has to be recognised before anything can be done about it. Wake up from your slumbers and recognise the divinity within you and nurture it and allow it to grow and flourish. A seed has to be planted in the soil before it can grow. It has within it all its potentials, but those potentials remain dormant until they are given the right conditions in which to grow and develop. There are many souls in this life who will not wake up to their divine potential and they are like seeds stored away in packets. You must want to break your bonds to be free. As soon as the desire is there you will receive help in every way possible, but the desire in you must be there.
